持続可能な消費と生産に関わるライフサイクル工学
2015年に国連で持続可能な開発目標(SDGs)が採択されたように、持続可能な社会の構築が国際的課題として挙げられています。同じ2015年に開かれた国連気候変動枠組条約第21回締約国会議(COP21)で採択されたパリ協定では、持続可能な社会の構築のための世界全体での法的枠組みが示されました。持続可能な社会の構築には様々な問題点が存在しており、それらを統合的に考える必要があります。そのためには、生産者や消費者・行政といった様々な立場にある意思決定者が、自身の担当する分野だけを考えるのではなく、社会システムのなかで他の分野とも連携していく必要があります。本研究室では、資源採取から廃棄にいたるまでの製品の一生における環境影響を評価し環境配慮設計を行うための工学であるライフサイクル工学に基づいて、ペットボトルのリサイクルプロセスの評価から始まり、現在に至るまで多様な製品やサービスを対象に研究を行っています。
動機と目的
日本の温室効果ガス排出量の1/3は家庭やオフィスでの活動に由来するものであり、消費者の日々の行動から環境負荷を減らしていくことが急務です。このために、本研究室では、消費者の製品選択や生産者の環境に配慮した製品設計を支援するための研究を行っています。消費者の製品選択においては、製品の環境情報をどのように提供すべきか、消費者の理解や行動を変化させるための支援はどのようなものかを検討し、環境配慮行動の支援手法を開発します。生産者への支援においては、生産者も自ら製品や製造プロセスの環境影響を評価し、設計や運転の改善を実践できる手法を開発します。消費者と生産者を実際に支援するとともに、手法によって得られた結果から環境政策に有効な提言を行うことも目標として掲げています。
研究アプローチ
環境に配慮した行動・製品は、個々の分野のみではなく、そのライフサイクル全体に配慮した行動・製品である必要があります。製品のライフサイクルを通して環境配慮設計を行うため、本研究室ではライフサイクル思考に基づいた設計支援手法の開発を行っています。その際には現実の社会がどのような意思決定プロセスによって決定されているのかを知るために、企業へヒアリング調査や消費者にアンケート調査を実施しています。こうして様々な視点において議論を深めていくことによってライフサイクル全体への貢献を目指しています。
また、環境に配慮した行動・製品が持続可能な社会の構築に貢献できるとは限りません。対象の行動・製品が社会に受け入れられることや、ビジネスとして成り立つこと、さらに安全に使用できることなど、持続可能な社会の構築には多様な視点を考慮する必要があります。持続可能な発展のためのトリプルボトムラインとして知られる環境性・経済性・社会性をライフサイクルで考慮できる手法を開発し、持続可能な発展へと貢献していくことが必要となります。
